Optimizing Wireless Rate and Pooling Plans

Wireless Expense Management

Carriers are in business to "create" revenue and Telecom Expense Management (TEM) companies exist to "reduce" that revenue. All mobile carriers offer some sort of wireless optimization but rarely will they reduce costs as much as a TEM company. We continually reduce costs 20% or more after the carriers "optimize" services. Why?

Because we scrutinize every rate plan, pooling plan, usage charge and tax to make sure it's valid, and we provide low cost alternatives to high priced carrier services. For example directory assistance is $1.49, but free if you direct users and program phones to dial 800-GOOG411 (800-466-4411) or 800-Free411 (800-373-3411) instead. Did your carrier rep ever tell you that? That's why you need...

Wireless Expense Management Software and a Team of Experts

Vocio combines knowledgeable wireless experts along with industry leading wireless expense management software to help you optimize your wireless rate plans. Our software automates the time consuming process of manually entering data by comparing 3 month usage patterns to the alloted plan minutes and overall pooling minutes and flagging plans that should be changed.

Pooling Plan Math Explained

For example lets say you had a pooling plan with 100 lines and a pool of 100,000 minutes at a cost of $5,000 with overage minutes at 25 cents. If you were to use exactly 100,000 minutes your cost per minute would be 5 cents, but if you were to go over the alloted pooling minutes by say 10,000 you cost would go up to $2,500 and making your overall cost per minute 9 cents.

Now lets say you go under the plan minutes by 20,000. Making your total minutes used 80,000. Well once again your cost goes up, in this case to 6.25 cents per minute.

Identifying the "Power Users" - Taking the power users out of your pool

Another part of the optimization process is to eliminate any "Power Users" from your pooling plan and setting them up on a stand alone plan. In the example above you would want to remove any users with an average use of minutes above over 2,000 minutes. Why? Well for $99 you can get an unlimited plan and at anything above 2,000 minutes your cost starts decrease below the 5 cents, which is what the pooling plan minutes allow.

For example if the "Power User" used 3,000 minutes at a cost of $99 then the effective rate would be 3.3 cents, or 34% less.

Why make the Cell Phone Plans Complicated?

There really is no need for this complicated cellular math, it would be much easier if they gave companies a flat rate, but simple is not the way to drive profits. These plans are intended to make the process of analyzing bills confusing.

What to do about it?

So as mentioned the carriers will help you analyze plans and sometimes they do an ok job at it, but on average Vocio lowers costs 20% further than any carrier optimization. Start a free trial by sending us a few invoices and if we can get results for you.
